Birds / Great Tit (Parus major)

Great Tit

The Great Tit is distributed in most Europe, parts of north Africa and in large parts of Asia from Siberia to Japan and Sri Lanka. It prefers mixed woodland and scattered trees to pure deciduous forest and seems to dislike coniferous forest. It is also well adapted to gardens, parks and farmland. It feeds on insects, caterpillars in spring and seeds in winter. It is the largest tit and has yellow underparts with a black central band. It has big white cheek patches in a black head, an olive green back and a white wing-bar on a blue-grey wing.
